Sonia, is a lawyer with extensive experience in criminal law, international law, child and family law. Sonia is a partner in our firm and leads her criminal law practice. She is known for her thorough, strategic and objective approach as a litigator, which allowed her to courageously defend her clients and achieve excellent results. She was a career prosecutor in the Santo Domingo province, where she headed the litigation department.

Before joining Global District, Sonia led one of the most important and prestigious international organizations in the fight of violence against women and girls and modern slavery, the International Justice Mission (IJM). During her time there, Sonia managed to make important impacts on the Dominican justice system, including increasing sentences in human trafficking cases and facilitating access to justice for victims. In addition, she promoted the law that eliminated child marriage in the country and has been a drafting party of several bills that are currently in the national congress.
Sonia has also participated in multiple courses and conferences on criminal and international law, and has been an international panelist for various organizations such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). She has also been a professor for law students, judges and prosecutors in various educational institutions and has been interviewed by the national and international press regarding her work on behalf of the fight against children sexual exploitation and violence against women.
Sonia graduated in Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), she has a master’s degree in Fundamental Rights from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and an specialization in Criminal Procedure Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), in addition to having completed several diplomas. When she is not working, she enjoys drinking hot chocolate, coffee, as well as the beach, besides she likes spending free time with her family and friends.
